Thandai

March 6, 2015 By Manjooo M Leave a Comment

Thandai is a traditionally associated with most of the festivals in Northern part of India. It is a perfect drink for special days like Holi. There are several types of spices are added to this… some add pistachios, cashew nuts, rose petals, melon seeds other than the almonds….

This simple recipe is from my first cookery book collection…Story is here

You need,

  • Milkmaid – 1/4 cup
  • Milk chilled – 1.5 cups
  • Almonds – 5 nos, soaked in 1/4 cup hot water and peeled after a while
  • Poppy seeds – 1 tbsp, soaked in  3 tbsp hot water
  • Black pepper – 3 nos
  • Green cardamom – 2
  • Fennel seeds – 1 teaspoon
  • Rose water – 1/2 teaspoon

You have to,

  • Grind almonds, poppy seeds, cardamom seeds, fennel seeds to a fine paste
  • Now blend this paste and remaining ingredients
  • Strain and serve chilled in glass, garnished with a rose petal

The recipe serves 2 to 3 glasses

Notes:

  • The original recipe dint asked to add rose water
  • You can drink without straining as well

Happy Holi!!!!
