This was a happy discovery. I am a great fan of Lebanese treats like zaatar & falafel. When I saw the menu tasting invitation from Doha Tweetups, it dint take much time for me to say a “yes’.
After my work, I reached Gate Mall with my friend and blogger Gops. This casual dining restaurant is located in the ground level of Gate Mall. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. At one side of the restaurant you could find the kitchen, you could see the food preparation live. The restaurant resembles like a factory with the stainless steel finish and yellow colors
After greetings, we occupied our seats. Soon 2 more food bloggers joined our table. Sahar and Khasna.
After some chit chat, we decided to place the order. If you look at the menu you will be surprised to realize it is not very expensive. It is very unusual to find such an affordable place in a luxury mall. I placed order for the mini treats. zaatar, cheese, Mini falafel wraps, mini chicken shawarma. I was quite sure all these mini treats would be enough to fill my stomach. And I have to leave some space for the desserts. Though we placed order separately all the food came in mixed up, which left especially me in a confusion, which is what. At the end, we just decided to eat everything together.
Zaatar cheese mana’eeh is one of my favorites. I have this often from an Arabic bakery, which is close to my place. I sandwiched one slice of zaatar and another slice of cheese. This is how i like to eat. The bread was fresh and had a thin crust. And together it was very tasty
Next I tried the falafals. I liked the way they served mini falafel sandwiches. Tiny kuboose bread was filled with crisp and flavorful falafels. It had radish pickles and mint leaves which made it more refreshing.
Then I tried mini chicken shawarma. The chicken strips was perfectly roasted. The sauce was less, which avoided the sauces dripping down.
But the star of the menu was the Phily cheese steak. A soft bread filled with cheesy and tender beef. Guess what, they bake all the breads in house. That was so delicious and filling. For a person like me, half portion of the sandwich is more than enough.
While we were enjoying our appetizers and main course, we were given a small introduction about “Sandwich Factory”.
After finishing the scrumptious meal, we started to choose the desserts.
First we tried Strawberry tart. The shell was baked to the perfection. The custard filling wasn’t too sweet. And with the fresh strawberries, the whole tart was just delish!!
Next was the chocolate eclair. The choux was fresh, light , airy and filled with again a not too sweet cream.
Last we tried the dessert of the day and something which I like. A cheese cake. The cake was smooth, creamy and comforting. It was topped with a fig sauce and garnished with finely sliced figs & walnut. The flavor of fig sauce was a bit over powering. But take a hint of the sauce with the cheese cake, and it is an amazing experience.
I was totally impressed with the desserts they served. The best part was We dint feel heavy even after tasting all of them. It was pleasant evening with good food and food blogger friends.
